How to Find and Share Your Google Location History

Understanding Google Location History

Google Location History is a service that tracks your movements over time, allowing you to see where you’ve been and the routes taken. This feature can be beneficial for various reasons, from retrieving past visits to sharing your current location with friends and family. Utilize this guide to learn how to access and share your Google location details effectively.

How to Access Your Google Location History

To find your Google Location History, start by logging into your Google account on a web browser. Navigate to the My Activity page by typing https://myactivity.google.com in the address bar. Here you can filter your activities by selecting Location History.

If you wish to see specific locations or time periods, use the calendar feature to narrow your search. You’ll have a visual map displaying all the places you’ve visited; this information can be incredibly useful if you want to remember a specific location or plan future trips.

Steps to Check Location History:

  1. Open Google Maps Timeline.
  2. Sign in with your Google account.
  3. Select a date from the timeline to see where you were.

Note: If Location History is turned off, no past locations will be available.

Sharing Your Current Location via Google

To share your current location using Google Maps, open the app on your mobile device. Tap the menu icon to access the options and select Location Sharing. You can choose how long to share your location, whether it’s for a few hours or indefinitely.

Select contacts to share your location with from your Google account. They will receive a link allowing them to view your position in real time. This way, you can ensure that friends or family can track your movements and meet up with you without any hassle.

Steps to Share Location:

  1. Open Google Maps on your phone.
  2. Tap on your profile picture (top right corner).
  3. Select “Location Sharing”.
  4. Tap “Share Location” and choose:
    • Duration (e.g., 1 hour or until you turn it off).
    • Person (select from Google Contacts or copy the link).
  5. Tap “Share” to send the location via WhatsApp, SMS, or other apps.

To stop sharing, go back to “Location Sharing” in Google Maps and tap “Stop”.
