How to Making GSTR-3B Payments in India

Understanding GSTR-3B

  • GSTR-3B is a key summary return that must be filed by GST registered taxpayers in India.
  • It serves to declare GST liabilities and facilitate tax payments.
  • Every registered taxpayer is required to file this return monthly, ensuring that their GST obligations are met timely.

Step-by-Step Guide to Paying GSTR-3B

Here’s a simple, step-by-step process to guide you through the payment of GSTR-3B:

  • Login to the GST Portal
Visit https://www.gst.gov.in and log in using your username and password.
  • Access GSTR-3B
Navigate to the ‘Returns Dashboard’. Select the financial year and return filing period, then click on ‘Prepare Online’ under GSTR-3B.
  • Fill the GSTR-3B Form
Input the details for outward supplies (sales), inward supplies (purchases), and input tax credit (ITC). Make sure to save after filling each section.
  • Offset Liability
Click on ‘Proceed to Payment’. If you have ITC available, you can use your credit ledger. Any remaining tax liability can be paid through your cash ledger.
  • Create a Challan
If a cash payment is required, select ‘Create Challan’. Choose your payment mode—net banking, NEFT/RTGS, or over-the-counter (OTC)—then click ‘Generate Challan’ and proceed with the payment.
  • Filing GSTR-3B
After payment, preview the draft GSTR-3B and file it using either an Electronic Verification Code (EVC) for individuals or Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) for companies. Make sure to enter the OTP if required. Upon successful filing, you will receive an ARN (Acknowledgment Reference Number) which is important for tracking.

Important Reminders

Keep in mind the due date for filing GSTR-3B is the 20th of the following month. Late fees and interest may apply if payments are made post deadline. Ensure timely compliance to avoid penalties!
